Delhi Capitals (DC) faced their second consecutive loss in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This, however, surely would've put them in a spot of bother in terms of qualification for the playoffs, as the business end is around the corner.
Delhi Capitals were at the receiving end of a 14-run loss at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Tuesday (29th April). Tthe 48th match of the tournament between the two teams took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Kolata Knight Riders beat Delhi Capitals by 14 runs
Kolkata Knight Riders were back to their winning ways as they beat Delhi Capitals by 14 runs. Asked to bat, the visitors had a decent start to their innings, with openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (26) and Sunil Narine (27) taking the attack to the Delhi bowlers right from the start.
They shared an opening stand of 48 runs in three overs to put the opposition under pressure. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane (26) also played an attacking brand of cricket, ensuring that Kolkata Knight Riders maximise the powerplay.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi (44) continued his brilliant form and, along with Rinku Singh (36), added 61 runs for the fifth wicket. Delhi Capitals (DC) made a strong comeback in the end, with Mitchell Starc bowling a brilliant last over. Kolkata Knight Riders ended with a score of 204 for nine.
Delhi Capitals (DC) had a poor start to the chase as in-form batter Abishek Porel got out in the first over, and soon after that, Karun Nair and Kl Rahul, who got run out, were back in the hunt early.
The hosts were left at 60 for three, and then it was when Faf du Plessis (62) and Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel (43) joined hands to bail their team out of trouble. The Faf-Axar duo added 76 runs for the fourth wicket to put pressure back on the opposition.
But Sunil Narine brought his team back into the game with three wickets to leave Delhi Capitals (DC) at 146 for six. Things got worse for the hosts when they lost two more wickets in the 18th over. Vipraj Nigam (38) tried his best but couldn't take his team home as KKR won the game by 14 runs.

With the loss against Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals (DC) faced their fourth loss in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Axar Patel-led side are now placed fourth on the points table with 6 wins out of their 10 games, to go with 12 points to their name.
The Delhi Capitals are still very much in contention for the playoffs. They need to win two games out of their four matches to reach the 16-point mark. Three wins will definitely ensure them the place, but losses would only make things tougher.
If they win just one game out of their four games, then they will be at 14 points. They will still have a chance to qualify, but it will all depend on the NRR and the results of other games.
The next three matches of the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025
Delhi Capitals will be next seen in action when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on 5th May at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Following that, they will be locking horns with Punjab Kings on 8th May in Dharamsala and then will take on Gujarat Titans at home on 11th May.
