The 28-year-old India Women's National Cricket Team all-rounder Deepti Sharma has shattered all records and has become the first-ever cricketer in history to achieve a remarkable milestone.
Deepti Sharma was on fire in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, and with her brilliant batting and bowling, she helped India Women's win the marquee tournament.
Deepti Sharma becomes the first player to achieve a historic double
The Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer has had quite a journey in cricket, and after years of heartbreaks, she managed to deliver an all-timer performance in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 and clinch the title.
In the 2017 World Cup final, she was dismissed when India needed 11 off 12, and in 2022, she had Mignon du Preez caught when South Africa needed 3 off 2 in a must-win game, but unfortunately, she had overstepped, and it turned out to be a no-ball.
However, Deepti didn't make such mistakes in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, and from the first game to the last game, she made immense contributions.
In the final, she scored 58 runs and returned with figures of 5/39. With this, she became the first cricketer to score a fifty and bag five wickets in a World Cup knockout game. Overall, she became the second Indian to bag the excellent double in a 50-over World Cup after Yuvraj Singh.
Deepti Sharma finished the tournament with 22 wickets in 9 innings at an average of 20.40 and 215 runs at an average of 30.71. This helped her become the first player - male or female - to score 200 runs and pick up 20 wickets in a single edition of the World Cup.
Most wickets in the Women’s ODI WC edition
23 - Lyn Fullston (AUS-W) in 1982
22 - Jackie Lord (NZ-W) in 1982
22 - Deepti Sharma (IND-W) in 2025
Honestly, we still can't believe this result - Deepti Sharma
Deepti Sharma bagged the Player of the Tournament award after the victory, and speaking to the broadcasters, she said that winning the World Cup feels like a dream. Deepti stated:
"Honestly, we still can't believe this result. It feels like a dream. But very happy I could contribute like this today. We always try to take away positives from the match.
"Also have to thank the fans, they came in huge numbers today, because they support us in every game. Without them it wouldn't be possible, thanks to them. As a team we feel so good after this result. (how do you react to challenges?) I always enjoy whatever department I'm in. Whatever situation I'm in, because I like challenges. Today, I got the same thing that I had a ball in my hand and bat in hand."

And finally I would like to dedicate this trophy to my mom and dad - Deepti Sharma
Deepti Sharma further said that she just wanted to play according to the situation in the World Cup final and the entire tournament, and dedicated her award to her parents. She elaborated:
"I had to play according to that situation. And I enjoyed a lot. And what better moment than this to go on stage and perform as an all-rounder for your team. It can't be more amazing than this. (what was the chat when Laura was batting so well?) I think Laura played a very good inning, honestly. But we were not relaxed anywhere. We were very calm. We were always cheering each other up, whenever there was a drinks break.
"And as a bowling unit, we were talking that we have to go till the last ball. And we have to focus more on our best ball. And we did the same thing. (what changes do you want to see for the future?) There have been a lot of changes since 2017. And I would like to say if we play more number of matches from now on, it will be good. And finally I would like to dedicate this trophy to my mom and dad."
