Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal has requested the Indian Premier League and the BCCI to move the upcoming match against Mumbai Indians (MI) to a different venue. Jindal raised concerns that the weather conditions could disrupt their crucial fixture due to a yellow alert being issued in the city.

The upcoming IPL 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals is scheduled to take place in Mumbai on Wednesday, May 21.

Notably, it is a critical match for both teams to reach the IPL 2025 playoffs. Mumbai would qualify for the playoffs if they win. Neither team qualifies immediately if the Axar Patel-led team wins.

The Game Between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals Will Be Washed Out - Parth Jindal

In an email accessed by ESPNcricinfo, Parth Jindal pointed out that the IPL had relocated the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from Bengaluru to Lucknow due to similar weather issues.

Jindal urged the league to maintain consistency and fairness by also shifting the match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. He stated that heavy rains are forecasted in Mumbai, and the match should be moved to a different venue to protect the interests of the tournament.

“The forecast in Mumbai is for heavy rains and there is a strong likelihood that the game will be washed out,” Jindal wrote.

“Just as the game between RCB vs SRH has been moved out of Bengaluru in the quest for consistency and in the interest of the league it is my request that tomorrow’s game also be moved to a different location as we have known for the better part of 6 days that the forecast for 21st in Mumbai is for heavy showers.”

Indian Meteorological Department Issues Yellow Alert for Mumbai

The Indian Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for Mumbai on Tuesday, warning of heavy rain over the next four days. Delhi Capitals' Parth Jindal’s request came shortly after the IPL relocated the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad from Bengaluru to Lucknow due to weather concerns.

Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore also voiced his disappointment with the IPL’s new rain rule, which adds 120 extra minutes to complete rain-affected matches. Mysore stated that if this rule had been in place when the IPL resumed on May 17, KKR’s match against RCB might have saved KKR's playoff hopes.

Playoff Scenario If MI vs DC Match Gets Abandoned

If the match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) is abandoned due to rain, both teams will share points. MI will move to 15 points and DC to 14 points.

DC can still qualify by beating Punjab Kings in their final game. However, for DC to reach the playoffs, Mumbai must lose to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their last match.

Even if the MI vs DC game is washed out, Mumbai has two ways to qualify. A win against Punjab Kings in their final game will take them to 17 points, securing a playoff spot regardless of other outcomes. If Mumbai loses to Punjab Kings, they can still qualify if Delhi also loses to Punjab Kings.
