Devajit Saikia officially takes over Jay Shah's position in BCCI

Former Assam cricketer Devajit Saikia has been appointed as the new secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He will be replacing Jay Shah in the role after the latter was recently appointed as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The BCCI secretary post was left vacant after Jay Shah was appointed as the head of the global cricket body. Shah took over the reins of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on 1st December, and for the last month, the position remained vacant in the Indian body.

He joined President Roger Binny alongside other officials in the meeting, where captain Rohit Sharma and coach Gautam Gambhir were also present.
Saikia, who played four games for Assam between 1990 and 1991, also served as a lawyer at the age of 28 in the Gauhati High Court. However, in 2016, he entered into the field of cricket administration and since then has been in the same profession.

Devajit Saikia was appointed as one of the six vice presidents of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) under the presidency of Hemanta Biswasarma. He then took over the role of ACA secretary in 2019, a position he held until he was elected the BCCI joint secretary in 2022.
Assam Cricket Association (ACA) was happy with Devajit Saikia's appointment as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), saying that it's a proud moment for the entire Assam cricket fraternity.
The state Association also expressed their confidence in Devajit Saikia excelling in his role, saying that they are sure that his tenure will enrich the legacy of Indian cricket.

Taking to their Twitter account, the Assam Cricket Association stated:

Devajit will now have to fill the massive shoes of Jay Shah. The former Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did a great job for Indian cricket and it was under his tenure, India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He would be hoping to do the same things for Indian cricket and help them put massive strides forward.

Apart from him, Prabhtej Bhatia has also been appointed as the BCCI treasurer during the Special General Meeting (SGM) in Mumbai on Sunday.
