Since then, the BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has been filling in for Binny, and according to a report in TOI, there is a high chance of him being elected as the new BCCI President because of his experience as a cricket administrator.

"Rajeev Shukla stands a very good chance to be elected as the BCCI president in the election due to happen later this month," a source told TOI.

Devajit Saikia’s days as BCCI Secretary numbered?

Devajit Saikia served as the BCCI Joint Secretary since October 18, 2022, before replacing Jay Shah, as the new Secretary on January 12, 2025, with the latter being elected as the Chairperson of ICC.

Reportedly, the IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal, former BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry are battling for the BCCI Secretary post alongside Devajit Saikia, who could continue in the role.

Meanwhile, Anirudh Chaudhry has emerged as one of the candidates to become the new IPL chairman. Currently, Rohan Desai and Prabhtej Singh are the joint secretary and treasurer of BCCI and are likely to continue in the role.

"Apparently, there's some confusion around whether Dhumal is supposed to serve a cooling period. Things will become clearer in the next few days," a source said.

"Saikia has done a good job so far in the almost nine months that he has been in charge, driving the BCCI efficiently through a period where a lot has happened both on and off the field in Indian cricket. There's no reason to believe that he can't continue as the BCCI secretary," say those tracking developments.

BCCI floats tender for title sponsorship

On September 2, 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially announced the release of the Invitation for Expression of Interest for National Team Lead Sponsor Rights.

This comes after the abrupt exit of Dream11, which happened after the Indian government passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, which bans all forms of online money games.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has issued an invitation for the Expression of Interest for National Team Lead Sponsor Rights (“IEOI”), which can be bought for the receipt of payment of a non-refundable fee of INR 5,00,000.

Also, in the media release, the board revealed prohibited brand categories, which include Alcohol Products, Betting or Gambling Services, Cryptocurrency, Online Money Gaming, Tobacco, and others.
