Dewald Brevis’ comparison with ABD

Dewald Brevis got the recognition as Baby AB when he started playing cricket at the domestic level. Brevis is regularly compared with AB de Villiers and has expressed his desire to be recognised as a unique batter.

Brevis shared his thoughts in the post-match presentation and stated it was an honor for him to be compared with legend De Villiers, but he wants to make his own identity as a player.

“I am happy and enjoying the game, having fun on the field. I need to stay true to myself. I’ve always been the kid who enjoys the moment while playing. I kept reminding myself, ‘it’s cool, not warm (conditions)’. I needed to play an innings like that, and I’m very grateful for it. I must keep playing, as everyone has advised me. AB is someone I admire; he has helped me improve my game, but I aim to be my own player. It’s an honor to be compared to AB de Villiers," Brevis stated.

Dewald Brevis’ mid-season signing

Brevis was unsold in the mega auction of IPL but was signed as the replacement for Gurjapneet Singh by CSK management.

CSK’s batting failure forced the management to sign the overseas batter. Their top order didn’t perform at all in the ongoing IPL season as a result, CSK finished the league stage in the last position for the first time.

Brevis played the last season with the Mumbai Indians but didn't perform up to the mark and got released by the franchise before the mega auction.

Dewald Brevis' IPL 2025 performance

Brevis played only six matches in the IPL 2025, but his impact was way more than any other CSK player in the tournament.

Brevis scored 225 runs in six innings at a monstrous 180 strike-rate. He also smashed the second-fastest half-century for CSK in the last league match.

The Proteas batter showed his calibre this season, and he was in brilliant form in the last few months. Brevis played for MI Cape Town in the SA 20 league and had a great season with the franchise, and carried the form in this IPL season as well.
