Dewald Brevis joining CSK? South African drops a bombshell amid IPL 2025

Days after getting a contract from Hampshire Cricket, the South African batting sensation Dewald Brevis has hinted at his mid-season entry in the ongoing IPL 2025. Dewald Brevis failed to find any buyer at the IPL 2025 mega auction after being released by the Mumbai Indians.
But it seems that the Proteas superstar, who is dubbed as the next AB de Villiers, has found a new home. Actually, Brevis has posted a blank yellow post on his Instagram story, hinting that he is joining the struggling Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing IPL 2025.

Dewald Brevis posts humongous update on CSK rumours
However, the young batter has not mentioned anything in the caption, but it is widely speculated that he got the call-up from the five-time champions CSK to bring their poor campaign back on track, especially after their skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled himself out of the tournament.

Notably, Dewald Brevis first made headlines during the 2022 ICC Men’s U19 World Cup, where he smashed 506 runs in just six innings, including two centuries and three half-centuries. His outstanding performances quickly grabbed attention across the world.
Dewald Brevis making waves in T20 cricket around the world
Since then, the young South African batting star has played for several big teams in different T20 leagues. The right-handed batter has represented Mumbai Indians in the IPL, MI New York in Major League Cricket (USA), and St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League, and also turned out for Morrisville Samp Army and New York Strikers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
In the 2025 SA20 League, Brevis finished as the second-highest run-scorer with 291 runs in the tournament. Overall, in his T20 career so far, the 21-year-old batter has played 81 matches, scoring 1787 runs at an average of 26.27 with a strike rate of 144.93.
He has seven fifties and one century to his name in the format, proving he’s one of the brightest young batting talents in the world. Earlier this week, Hampshire Cricket signed Brevis for the upcoming T20 Vitality Blast season. He will also have the opportunity to play in the County Championship for the club if he manages to impress in the T20 Vitality Blast.
CSK aiming for a turnaround in the IPL 2025
Before this, he might get a chance to shine in the upcoming IPL 2025 for CSK. Speaking about Chennai Super Kings, the five-time IPL champions have been facing the worst of their history, losing five games in a row, and they are currently the bottom-ranked team with only two wins from their seven games so far in the ongoing IPL 2025.
After Gaikwad was ruled out of the IPL 2025 season due to an injury, MS Dhoni was handed the captaincy, and CSK managed to beat Lucknow Super Giants by 5 wickets in their previous game in the tournament. They will next face the Mumbai Indians on April 20 at the Wankhede Stadium in the IPL 2025. MI looks dangerous currently, having won back-to-back games after early struggles.
