South African youngster Dewald Brevis has been making rounds on social media for his stunning arrival to international white-ball cricket, as he has never put the brakes on his scoring rate. This time, the AB de Villiers fanboy leapt and grabbed a catch sharply at point, recreating Jonty Rhodes' images in the minds of cricket lovers.
South Africa are heading into the series on the back of a stunning win in the Test series and would be high on confidence, while India are vengeful. South Africa decided to rest their skipper, Tamba Bavuma, and Aiden Markram took the field as the Proteas' skipper.
Though they could not have a great start with the Indian veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli putting on a huge century partnership for the second wicket, they have managed to pull it back to some extent in the middle overs after the dismissal of Rohit, followed by new batter Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Dewald Brevis takes a stunner to dismiss Ruturaj Gaikwad on ODI return
Ruturaj Gaikwad made his return to the Indian side after a long wait. He had convinced the Indian management with his sheer domination in the unofficial ODI against South Africa A that this would be the right time to bring him in following Shreyas Iyer's injury.
Struggling to score runs with ease, Gaikwad tried and slashed at a ball that was slightly outside the off-stump, but the ball from Ottneil Baartman once again kept low, and Dewald Brevis at backward point was ready to pull out an absolute stunner. Looking at Brevis pull off a one-handed blinder, Virat Kohli was left absolutely astonished.

South Africa has been electric on their ground fielding
After Rohit Sharma was dropped by Tony de Zorzi, the Proteas have been electrifying on the field. Their ground fielding has just been superb, as they have saved boundaries, checked on the scoring rate and have taken stunning grabs at times.
Dewald Brevis has been very sporadic in his region, and so have been Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen and even Tony de Zorzi after the catch drop. He has been terrific on the ball. He has been sprinting, saving singles, and keeping boundaries off to 2's and 3's.
Virat Kohli nearing 52nd ODI ton
Even after Rohit Sharma's dismissal, Virat Kohli has looked confident, though the scoring rate has fallen by a huge extent, as both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Washington Sundar stink at regularizing the strike between the two ends.
Kohli, the greatest ever Indian player in ODI cricket, has more hundreds than the Little Master Sachin Tendulkar in this format. After his 51 ODI centuries, Kohli is eyeing a 52nd one at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi. He has, anyway, scored consecutive half-centuries after consecutive ducks back in Australia.
With this kind of performance, Kohli would be assured of his spot in India's 2027 ICC World Cup squad.
