South Africa’s young batting sensation Dewald Brevis has once again shown how much he admires the legendary batter AB de Villiers. Dewald Brevis is often compared to AB de Villiers for his fearless stroke play, and they also hail from the same country, South Africa.

Even the 22-year-old right-hander earned the nickname 'Baby AB' because of his batting style and shot-making ability that is almost similar to the former South Africa captain. Recently, Brevis revealed his dream batting partner, and he is none other than AB de Villiers himself.

When De Villiers asked about his dream partner on his YouTube channel, Dewald Brevis instantly replied, “It’s definitely you.” The answer left the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) icon in splits, as ABD himself responded with excitement, “Oh, imagine. It would have been fun.”

Later, Brevis cheekily suggested they should actually play a game together someday. He said, “We should play the same game at some point, maybe.” To which De Villiers playfully hinted at waiting for the youngster in the World Championship of Legends (WCL).

De Villiers joked, “I think so. Maybe I'll play for another 10 or 20 years. I'll wait for you there at the WCL. You come and join me in the old man’s league.” And Brevis, with a big smile, said that he would really love to bat with his idol in the WCL. He noted, “I would love to do that.”

Meanwhile, Dewald Brevis insisted that the constant comparisons to AB de Villiers don’t affect him. The Proteas star also shared how he got the nickname “Baby AB.”

Brevis told De Villiers, “A friend of mine held up a board saying ‘Baby AB’ when I scored 50 against India. It has never been a burden or pressure for me; rather, it’s been special. I’ve always idolized AB de Villiers, learned a lot from him, and consider the comparison a huge privilege.”

Meanwhile, Dewald Brevis has transformed from a teenage sensation to one of the most exciting names in world cricket. Brevis first made headlines at the U19 World Cup 2022, smashing 506 runs in six games at an average of 84.33, with two centuries and three fifties.

Brevis is on fire across the formats in 2025

That fearless batting earned him the nickname “Baby AB” and an IPL contract soon after. However, the road to international cricket wasn’t easy for him. Brevis took time to adjust, but his return to the South African side in 2025 marked a turning point.

Since then, he has been in red-hot form, scoring 318 runs in 10 T20Is at a strike rate of nearly 192, including a brilliant century in Australia. He also made a solid Test debut, scoring a half-century in his first innings. Brevis’s IPL stint with Chennai Super Kings in 2025 showed his class.

The Proteas star scored 225 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 180. He has piled up 995 runs in 30 innings at an average of 43.26 and a strike rate of 186.32, with six fifties in the T20s this year so far.
