Dhruv Jurel the new MS Dhoni? 23-year-old equals India great's legendary Duleep Trophy record

Young wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel has created a spot for himself in the history of the Duleep Trophy. In the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 match between India A and India B at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, Jurel is playing for India A.

During the match, he equaled MS Dhoni's record for the most catches taken in an innings in the history of Duleep Trophy. Dhoni had created this record during the second innings of the Duleep Trophy 2004-05 match between East Zone and Central Zone in Gwalior.

Dhruv Jurel joins MS Dhoni in this elite list

Dhruv Jurel took seven catches in the second innings of the match between India A and India B at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. While playing for India A, he had a magnificent time with the gloves and took some fantastic catches during the match.

Jurel has now joined MS Dhoni who also took seven catches in a Duleep Trophy match around 20 years ago. S Benjamin and S Vishwanath complete the list of the top four batters with the most no. of catches in the history of the tournament.

The youngster took some flying catches behind the stumps and showed why he is rated so highly. However, Jurel had a difficult time with the bat as he scored just 2 runs across both the innings of the match. In the second innings, he was dismissed by the left-arm seamer Yash Dayal for a golden duck.

Dhruv Jurel's Test Career

Although he had a difficult time with the bat, Dhruv Jurel was magnificent with the gloves. His glovework was spot on and he took some great catches in the match. He picked up a solitary catch in the first innings.

Dhruv Jurel had a brilliant start to his Test career. He made his Test debut during India's home Test series against England earlier this year, In three Tests, he has scored 190 runs so far at an average of 63.33, He was also adjudged the Player of the Match in Ranchi Test.

India B take control of the match

Earlier, India B's second innings ended on 184 runs early on Day 4. Fast bowlers Khaleel Ahmed and Akash Deep picked up 8 wickets between them while Akash Deep claimed a five-wicket haul. India B set a target of 275 runs for India A to win the match.

Chasing a challenging target, India A were in trouble at 106-6. While Shubman Gill and Riyan Parag got a start, they could not convert them into big ones. Parag in particular was severe while batting at No. 3. The right-hander smashed 3 sixes and 1 four but was dismissed for 31 off just 18 balls.

India A kept losing wickets at regular intervals but KL Rahul stayed at one end. Rahul was looking set on a tricky batting surface and was closing in on a well-deserved fifty.
