Legendary Rahul Dravid completed his tenure as the head coach of the Indian cricket team following the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA). Rahul Dravid highlighted his coaching philosophy focused on continuity and stability rather than 'chopping and changing' too much.

Rahul Dravid concluded his coaching tenure with the Indian cricket team after the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa. The Men in Blue secured a seven-run victory in Barbados on June 29. This victory marked India's second T20 World Cup title. The Men in Blue brought home the trophy again after 2007.

The 51-year-old guided the Indian cricket team to the finals of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) and ODI World Cup 2023. However, they were unable to secure the trophy in matches against Australia. The Indian team achieved the No. 1 ranking across all formats simultaneously under his guidance.

Actually Likes Continuity - Rahul Dravid

In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rahul Dravid opened up about his coaching philosophy. Dravid highlighted his role in creating a professional and secure environment that encourages growth and challenges without fear of failure.

"I'm someone who actually likes continuity and don't like to chop and change too many things because I believe that creates a lot of instability and doesn't create very good environment," Dravid said in a video posted by BCCI.

"I feel that I am a part of the team whose responsibility is to create the right professional, safe, secure environment that doesn't really have a fear of failure as such but is challenging enough to push people. That has always been my endeavour," Dravid added.

Rahul Dravid initially planned to step down as head coach after India's defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia. However, Rohit Sharma asked him to extend his tenure until the 2024 T20 World Cup. This decision proved fruitful, as India went on to win the T20 World Cup under Dravid's coaching.

Had To Manage Their Workloads - Rahul Dravid

The former Indian cricketer recalled his challenging early days as India's coach during the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasized the need to carefully handle players' workloads across all three formats during this period, adding that he hadn't anticipated it but managed as it unfolded naturally.

"One of the things that we really had to manage, especially in the early part of my coaching tenure here with India. We were at the back-end of the Covid restrictions. We really had to manage their workloads through all the three different formats," Dravid said.

"It was definitely something that I hadn't envisaged, or not something that I thought about, but it just sort of organically happened," Dravid added.

Rahul Dravid also coached the Idias U19 team and guided the team to the World Cup victory in 2018. Prior to becoming head coach of the Indian men's team after the 2021 T20 World Cup, he served three years as head of the National Cricket Academy.
