Dinesh Karthik Is Unconcerned About His Selection For The World Cup Squad

Dinesh Karthik, the wicketkeeper for Tamil Nadu, may find himself in the middle of things when it comes to the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.

The cricket-crazed nation has been actively but ineffectively chasing the World title in the shortest format ever since the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, when underdog India, captained by a youthful but charismatic MS Dhoni, won the championship.

India has not even come near to winning the world cup once since that time, despite making it to the final in 2014 but losing to Lasith Malinga-led Sri Lanka. Six world cups have passed since then.

Even the harshest critics of Indian cricket have had second thoughts about writing off the team as a serious contender for the upcoming World Cup after the appointment of Rohit Sharma as captain, Rahul Dravid as head coach, and the players’ inculcation of the concept of “attacking play.”

The introduction of Dinesh Karthik 2.0 and Hardik Pandya’s mature version has made the Rohit Sharma-led team a challenge to other teams and likely the strongest side to steal the championship away from host side Australia.

Dinesh Karthik is the finisher India has been looking for since MS Dhoni’s magic wand began to fade after 2016; on the other hand, Pandya has blossomed with success as the captain of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 into the all-rounder India has not had since Kapil Dev’s time.

The 37-year-old claimed that the team is getting ready for the challenges of the tournament and that everything around it has been going well.

“We are preparing as a squad for the challenges we will encounter during the upcoming World Cup. Everyone has come along as we get ready for the big game with Coach Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma. The atmosphere is extremely uplifting,” Karthik said.

Karthik added: “His focus is on performing well and that he is not concerned about being selected for the World Cup squad.”

Karthik will next be seen in action in the T20 series against the Windies, which begins on July 29.
