Former wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik showered praise on skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir for their contribution to Indian cricket. Dinesh Karthik said that Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir will bring a "glorious era" to Indian cricket with their intent to win every match.
Gambhir was appointed as head of the India men's cricket team after Rahul Dravid, who ended his tenure after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 in June. Gambhir started his stint with a 3-0 victory over Sri Lanka in the T20 series, but they lost by 0-2 during the subsequent ODI series in away conditions.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma's retirement from T20I cricket came after the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit and Gambhir joined for red-ball cricket for the first time against Bangladesh. India secured a convincing 280-run victory in the first match, followed by a seven-wicket victory in the next game in Kanpur.
It's A Tad Bit Unfair To Expect - Dinesh Karthik
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik expressed optimism about the future of Indian cricket. However, Karthik also said that it’s unrealistic to expect players to maintain consistently high performance for long periods of time.
"It's a tad bit unfair to expect them to keep batting like this. This is not healthy for long periods of time. It's not going to be possible as well," Karthik said.
That Was Great To Watch - Dinesh Karthik
The cricketer-turned-commentator praised Rohit Sharma for his aggressive approach and strong intent to win. Karthik said that Sharma wants to lead the team by example. Karthik expressed excitement about the future of Indian cricket under the leadership of Sharma and Gautam Gambhir.
"But the intent to win, that's what we need to observe and that was great to watch today. Right from the outset, what I love about Rohit Sharma is walks the walk. If he has decided that he wants to declare and put Bangladesh in, he is the guy to go on and take the first ball and smash it for a six.
"That's a statement and that was so good to watch. It's going to be a glorious era with Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma with just one thing. They want to win every match and that's a great place to start," Dinesh Karthik added.
