England all-rounder Ben Stokes’ decision to take an indefinite break from cricket has left everyone gobsmacked.

The England and Wales Cricket Board, on Friday, announced that Stokes has decided to take a step aside from the rigors of playing at the elite level in order to adhere to his mental health.

As a result, Stokes will not be available for the upcoming five-match Test series against India and he has been replaced by Craig Overton.

Stokes’ decision to take a break from the game in order to adhere to his mental health has once again brought into focus the effect of playing in a bio-secure environment under stringent rules is having an effect on athletes from around the world.

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has reacted to Ben Stokes’ decision to step aside from the game on Twitter.

The cricketer-turned commentator admitted that he did not anticipate the development besides recalling how his Tamil Nadu teammate Abhinav Mukund has been vocal about the mental health issues that elite spokespeople face.

Karthik also alluded to the sample of Virat Kohli, who has spoken at length about the need for athletes to open up about the state of their mental health multiple times in the past.

The Indian stumper also added that living in a bubble isn’t as easy as it looks from the outside.

“Omg, didn’t see that coming. I remember my best friend @mukundabhinav speak about it. Recently @imVkohli spoke about this being something very real in covid times. Quarantining and bubble life isn’t easy. I promise you. Looks easy because of the luxury, but the battle is within,” wrote Dinesh Karthik.
