Former India National Cricket Team player Navjot Singh Sidhu was disappointed with Rohit Sharma getting dropped from playing XI in the ongoing Test match against the Australia National Cricket Team. He said that it was a blunder and saw this happening for the first time in the history of Indian cricket.

In what was a massive moment, India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma didn't feature in the playing XI for the ongoing Sydney Test. The opening batter was replaced by Shubman Gill, who was dropped from the XI for the last game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne.

Jasprit Bumrah mentioned that Rohit Sharma rested himself for the team

It was learned and even skipper Jasprit Bumrah mentioned that Rohit Sharma rested himself for the team. This all comes after the India National Cricket Team skipper failed to get going with the bat in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 both in the middle order as well as opener.

This decision shocked many as the captain not playing the match invited a lot of debate. In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah is leading the team, but the batting woes at the top continued as the top order failed to get going, and the India National Cricket Team lost wickets early and were under massive pressure.

It's bizarre, it's strange, simply because this has happened for the first time in Indian cricket history - Navjot Singh Sidhu on Rohit Sharma's snub

Navjot Singh Sidhu said that leaving out Rohit Sharma was a strange decision. He stressed that if they had to drop him then he shouldn't have been made captain at all. He added that the skipper sitting sends the wrong message. Taking to his Twitter account, he explained:

"It's bizarre, it's strange, simply because this has happened for the first time in Indian cricket history, that a captain is sitting outside. Either you shouldn't have made captain, but if he is captain, and a great player who has done a lot of service to Indian cricket, then whether his form is bad or not, it doesn't matter.

"The captain has no option to opt-out for the sake of the team. It sends the wrong signals. So I feel that whether you have made him sit outside, or given him an option, the management cannot give a captain the option to sit out. And that captain, who has made the team, who has instilled faith, who has played a role of a father figure, has earned respect."

"A Captain should never be dropped midstream nor given the option to opt-out - Navjot Singh Sidhu

Navjot Singh Sidhu added that the captain of the team never leaves the ship. While calling Rohit Sharma a respectable person, he said that it was a very wrong call. He elaborated:

"I think a captain never de-links from his ship, even if it is a sinking ship. And this is a very respectable and respectable person. Bhai, it's a wrong decision."

Navjot Singh Sidhu shared the video with the caption, saying that he has seen greats of the game, who were captains, play despite failing for years. He stressed that Rohit Sharma deserved more respect from team management. He said:

"A Captain should never be dropped midstream nor given the option to opt-out… sends wrong signals …. I Have seen Captains like Mark Taylor, Azharuddin, etc., persist as captain for a year despite bad form. Rohit Sharma deserved more respect and faith from the management … Bizarre coz it happened for the first time in Indian cricket history …. Blunder - for a fallen lighthouse is more dangerous than a reef !"
