Chasing 170 runs, Allen destroyed the South African bowling attack with fearless hitting. The right-hander smashed boundaries all around the ground and reached a breathtaking hundred in only 33 balls. This is now the fastest century ever scored in the history of the T20 World Cup.

Allen’s knock included ten fours and eight massive sixes as the Proteas bowlers had no answer to his aggressive attacking. He raced from 76 to 100 in just a handful of deliveries, finishing the chase in only 12.5 overs, leaving South Africa completely stunned as New Zealand sealed their place in the final in dominant fashion on March 4.

Allen said on Stars Sports, “It'll be the final, so it doesn’t matter who reaches it. We have to play our best cricket. You take the positives from the game and celebrate a little, but you have a final to look forward to on Sunday.”

The New Zealand opener’s knock was also the first-ever century scored in a T20 World Cup knockout match. The earlier best in a semifinal knock was 96 not out by Tillakaratne Dilshan in 2009. He also broke another big record.

His 33-ball century became the fastest T20I hundred against a full-member international team, going past the 35-ball mark shared by Rohit Sharma and David Miller.

At the same time, Allen equalled the world 33-ball record set by Sikandar Raza. He also became the first player to score a T20I century at Eden Gardens. He smashed eight sixes, the most by a New Zealand batter in a single T20 World Cup innings.

With 20 sixes in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, the Kiwi batter also overtook Shimron Hetmyer to become the player with the most sixes in this edition. Allen’s hundred also became New Zealand’s fastest T20I century, breaking the previous 46-ball record held by Glenn Phillips.
