There is too much hype around Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as everyone is waiting for the 15-year-old in action for the Indian cricket team in the T20Is against England. Amid the speculations around Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s debut match, legendary Team India captain Kapil Dev made some crucial comments ahead of the India vs England 2nd T20I match in Manchester.

Because of the excessive amount of hype, Kapil Dev is concerned about the future of the young batter. The former India cricketer said that it is necessary to stop all of the hype immediately, as Sooryavanshi is too young now.

At the age of only 15, he could feel pressure because of the hype and all of the expectations. And the pressure can be fired back if it hurts his natural batting style. Kapil Dev reckoned that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a rare kind of talent, which needs to be protected and groomed, distanced from the outside noises.

Kapil Dev does not want to make any prediction on Vaibhav’s career in a hurry as the batter is yet to travel a long road ahead.

“Vaibhav is one of the finest talents in the world. Don't hype him that much & put him under too much pressure. At this young age, you don't even know what is right or wrong. He is as talented as Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli but in T20s,” the former captain said during a podcast on SportsTak.

Some of the former cricketers and cricket experts said that the team management should hand Vaibhav his debut cap as soon as possible, considering his recent past with India A and, before that, with the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2026 season.

Before making any further opinion on the emerging batter’s career, the 67-year-old stated that the young batter will have to prove his mettle first to claim the peak of his career. Test cricket can take a decisive role in the Bihar-born batter’s career as the format will test the attacking opener’s nerves, mindset, and skill set at best.

“If he is ready, then he should be playing because sometimes we think that this is the peak of a batter, so why delay everything? He will have to prove his mettle in Test cricket as well; he is a fabulous T20 batter, we all know. There will be tough times as well, but it will be great to see how this talented young kid handles all these situations in his career,” Kapil Dev said in the podcast.

Final verdict on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's debut match

Should the team management name Vaibhav against England in England? In response, Kapil Dev mentioned Sachin Tendulkar’s debut. Tendulkar made his Team India debut at the age of only 16. When he joined the team and then went to play in the middle, there were some doubts.

The former captain's suggestion to the team management is to measure the talent in the batter, not the age. If he is ready to play, then the team can think about his debut.
