Riyan Parag, touted as one of the promising young batters for Team India, had another disappointing outing in the ongoing second round of the Duleep Trophy 2024. Parag's inability to convert his good starts into big scores further complicated his potential push for a Test spot in the Indian team.

Hopes were high, but the explosive batter failed to capitalize on his second innings knock after his brisk 37 off 29 balls in the first innings in the ongoing third match of the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 between India A and India D in Anantapur.

Riyan Parag's struggles continue in Duleep Trophy 2024

By the time Parag came in to bat, India A was well set. The openers Mayank Agarwal (56) and Pratham Singh (122) had given a platform with a dominating 115-run partnership, followed up by another century stand for the second wicket between Tilak Varma (111*) and Pratham.

The India A team was coasting along and had every license for Parag to play freely. Showing glimpses of his naturally aggressive game, Parag raced to 20 off 30 balls, smacking two big sixes that got the crowd excited. The Assam all-rounder’s body language hinted a bigger score was just around the corner, but he yet again left himself and everyone disappointed.

India D bowler Saurabh Kumar got the better of Parag for the second time in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 match with an ill-timed aggressive stroke. Tempted by Saurabh's flighted delivery, Parag went for a big hit down the ground to clear the long-off boundary but failed to connect cleanly.

Aggression is turning out to be a major enemy for Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag mistimed his shot, as the ball took the leading edge and sailed towards midfield, where substitute fielder Aditya Thakare comfortably completed the catch. It was another missed chance for Parag to capitalize on his start, as his attempt at aggression once again cost him his wicket.

After wasting another opportunity to impress in the red-ball cricket, frustration was written large on Parag's face. The youngster also failed to deliver big in the first Duleep Trophy 2024 match, scoring only 30 and 31 runs in a losing cause with India B winning the game by 76 runs in Bengaluru.

Watch here how Riyan Parag wasted his chance to impress with the bat:

Notably, Parag made his India debut in July 2024 after his impressive IPL 2024 season, but he failed to leave a mark with the bat on both the Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka tours. And now his struggles continue in the ongoing red-ball tournament as well.

However, India A is already in a great position to win the game against India D, thanks to Pratham and Tilak’s stunning hundred in the match. Shashwat Rawal also contributed an unbeaten 64 runs in the massive total as India A declared their second inning at 380/3. They handed the huge target of 488 runs to India D to win the Duleep Trophy 2024 game in Anantapur.
