Young batter Tilak Varma announced his return to professional cricket with a brilliant hundred during the second round of the Duleep Trophy 2024. The match is being played between India A and India D at Anantapur.

It was a patient innings from Varma, who was dismissed for just 10 in the first innings. After completing his century, he raised his arms aloft to soak in the applause from the crowd. While Tilak celebrated his century, Avesh Khan performed the famous 'Samaira Celebration' on his behalf.

The moment arrived in the 94th over of the innings. Varma played a length ball outside off stump from offspinner Saransh Jain past the first slip fielder for a double to reach the milestone. It was the fifth hundred of his first-class career which also marked a terrific return to form for him.

'Samaira celebration' is a famous celebration often performed by Tilak Varma after achieving a milestone. Samaira is the daughter of star India cricketer Rohit Sharma and Tilak shares a good bond with the kid.

Tilak Varma missed the first match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 due to his recovery from an injury that he suffered during IPL 2024. Since then, he has been away from professional cricket.

India A strengthen their position

Meanwhile, India A are in a dominant position in the match ever since they took a 107-run first innings lead. In the second innings, India A were totally in command over India D right from the start.

The opening duo of Mayank Agarwal and Pratham Singh stitched together a century partnership. While Agarwal was dismissed after his fifty, Pratham Singh and Tilak Varma scored magnificent centuries to take their team to a massive score.

Pratham Singh scores a magnificent hundred

Pratham scored his maiden Duleep Trophy hundred and was dismissed for 122. Riyan Parag failed to convert yet another good start into a big score and was out for just 20. But youngster Shashwat Rawat came in and played a perfect foil for Tilak Varma.

Both Tilak and Shashwat had an unbeaten partnership of 116 runs as India A captain Mayank Agarwal declared the innings on 380-3, thus setting a mammoth target of 488 runs for India D. Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 111 off 193 balls. He showed immense patience and composure during his knock.

Chasing a massive target, India D were 62-1 at stumps on Day 3. They need 426 more runs to win on the last day while India A is on top as they need 9 wickets to register an outright win. All the eyes will be on India D captain Shreyas Iyer, who has been going through poor form recently and will be expected to lead his team from the front on the last day.
