In what has been the latest development as per the reports in the ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has asked Jofra Archer not to register for the upcoming IPL 2024 auction. The reports added that the governing body is looking to manage his workload ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Jofra Archer was released from the Mumbai Indians’ squad ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. He, however, didn’t register in the auction and this probably might be the reason why five-time champions didn’t retain him. 32 England players have registered for the auction.

Jofra Archer recently signed a two-year contract with ECB and they didn’t want him to get injured again, which is why they didn’t let him register in the auction. The governing body believes that they will manage his workload better if he is there in England during the months of April and May.

Jofra Archer played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023. He played a few games before he traveled to Belgium for a minor operation after experiencing pain in his elbow. He returned and played a few more games before he yet again injured his elbow.

England are hopeful that Jofra Archer will be fit for the T20 World Cup 2024. The fast bowler is scheduled to train with the team in Barbados next week. He will not feature in either the ODI or the T20I series against West Indies but will practice with the team.

The reports in ESPNCricinfo also suggested that England’s T20I players have registered for the auction. Harry Brook, Adil Rashid, and Chris Woakes have entered the auction. Ben Stokes and Joe Root have both opted out and won’t be featuring in the league.

Eight England players in Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Jason Roy, Mark Wood, Will Jacks, and Reece Topley were retained by their respective IPL franchises. The IPL 2024 will be a great preparation for them for the T20 World Cup 2024.
