Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry has opened up about the possibility of representing her country at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Ellyse Perry is excited about cricket’s return to the Olympics after a 128-year hiatus, adding that she would love to be there for the tournament.

Ellyse Perry has won every major trophy in her illustrious cricket career for Australia. The all-rounder was part of the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold-winning team but didn't get a chance in the playing XI due to a back injury. Perry has also topped various ICC Women's Player Rankings throughout her career.

The 33-year-old has won six ICC Women's T20 World Cups, two Women's 50-over World Cups, and a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The star cricketer has also secured titles with the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League.

Never Looked At It Like That - Ellyse Perry

Ellyse Perry hasn’t set a retirement date and is hopeful she’ll be available for the 2028 Olympics. Perry expressed her desire to participate in the Olympics if she remains in form and available.

“I don’t think I’m the kind of person that wants to pin a date on a retirement. I’ve never looked at it like that. If I’m still there and available and good enough, I’d like to be there. I haven’t set a target on playing at the Olympics, but if I’m still around and good enough, I’d absolutely love to be there. It’s an awesome thing for the game, and an amazing opportunity to continue to grow it,” Perry said.

Perry is currently playing for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred in preparation for the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in October. She had a disappointing start in The Hundred as she was dismissed for a duck against Oval Invincibles. However, she bounced back with 65 off 48 balls against London Spirit.

England Have Been In Tremendous Form - Ellyse Perry

Australia will defend their T20 World Cup title in Bangladesh this October. Ellyse Perry acknowledged that England has been in tremendous form, adding that the gap between England and Australia is minimal.

“England have been in tremendous form and are playing some great cricket. Really excitingly there are a great number of younger players coming through on the domestic scene here,” Perry further added.

“I don’t think there’s ever been a huge gap between England and Australia. The Australian team have had the knack of winning the big moments. All sides are playing really consistently now and have a really good handle on the way they want to play.”

England, led by Heather Knight, had an impressive outing against New Zealand this summer. The England team swept both the ODI and T20I series against the Black Caps. The Three Lions will enter as one of the strong title contenders in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
