Veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami shared a heartwarming message after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired following India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 final match. Mohammed Shami expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play alongside Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in international cricket.

The Indian team ended a 13-year wait for a World Cup title by winning the T20 World Cup final match by seven runs against South Africa. The Men in Blue secured their second T20 World Cup trophy in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli finished their T20I careers on a winning note.

Mohammed Shami took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to praise Virat Kohli for his impact on T20 cricket, highlighting that his leadership and sportsmanship will be remembered. Shami expressed that it had been an honor to play alongside Kohli and wished him the best for the future.

"End of an era. Virat bhai, you have taken T20 cricket to new heights with your passion, dedication, and exceptional skills. Your leadership and sportsmanship will always be remembered. Virat Kohli entered the World Cup final match with a string of low scores. However, the right-handed batter played a crucial role in helping the team reach a par score, especially after three early wickets. He scored 76 runs off 59 balls, including six fours and two sixes, before being dismissed by Marco Jansen.

The Indian bowlers successfully defended 176 runs in the summit clash. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh guided the team to victory when the South African team needed just 30 runs off the last 30 balls. Virat was named "Player of the Match" for his contribution with the bat in the first innings.

Rohit Sharma holds the record for the most runs in the shorter format in international cricket. The right-handed batter scored 4231 runs in 159 T20I matches at an average of 31.34 and a strike rate of 140.89. The 37-year-old batter smashed five centuries and 32 half-centuries in his illustrious career.
