England pacer Ollie Robinson stated that the team will try everything to win the final Test against Australia at The Oval in the ongoing Ashes series. Ollie Robinson said that the England team will try to prevent Australia from securing their first Test series win in England since 2001.
The Pat Cummins-led team is currently leading the ongoing series 2-1 and is on the verge of securing a series victory against England. Australia last won a Test series on English soil under the leadership of the legendary Steve Waugh back in 2001, registering a convincing 4-1 series win.
In his column for The Wisden, Ollie Robinson expressed frustration over the fourth Test ending in a draw. He emphasized that the Ashes finale would have been perfect if the scoreline had been 2-2.
“The Oval’s massive. We’ve got to throw everything at winning this game. If we can end the summer dominating the Aussies at The Oval and putting on a show, putting bums on seats, that’s where we want to be, and that’s what we’re going to try to do. Australia haven’t won a series in England since 2001, and we don’t want to let that record go this week,” said Robinson.
“For the series and for cricket it was a shame that Manchester got ruined. If it had been 2-2 it would have been the perfect series, whoever comes out on top at the Kia Oval. The frustrating thing about Manchester was that for three days it really came off, and we played exactly how we’ve talked about wanting to,” he added.
The Ben Stokes-led team came close to levelling the series at 2-2 with a potential victory at Old Trafford in Manchester. However, their hopes were dashed by rain on the final day of the game.
Ollie Robinson lauded Ben Stokes for motivating the team after the fourth Test, highlighting the importance of leaving a positive imprint on cricket.
“The lads were flat that evening. We felt that we’d had a pretty good series and made most of the Test matches the games that they were. But Stokesy made a very good speech afterwards, saying that this Ashes series won’t define us as players, that we’re about the imprint that we’re trying to leave on cricket,” he added.
The Ben Stokes-led team will take on the Pat Cummins-led team in the fifth and final Ashes Test at the Oval in London, starting on Thursday, July 27th.
