Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne teased England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow during Day 1 of the final Test match in the ongoing Ashes series. Marnus Labuschagne reminded Jonny Bairstow of his controversial dismissal at the end of the day’s play at The Oval in London on Thursday, July 27.

Earlier in the series, Jonny Bairstow was stumped by Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey in the second Test match at Lord’s in London. Bairstow’s dismissal sparked a debate within the cricketing community, as former England cricketers expressed concern over the invocation of the ‘Spirit of Cricket’.

The incident occurred on the final over of the day. Marnus Labuschagne cheekily dragged his bat inside the crease and lingered a bit longer while looking directly at Jonny Bairstow, who had the ball in his hands. Anderson appeared to suggest “We don’t do that” as they crossed paths.

Cricket journalist Bharat Sundaresan tweeted about an intriguing exchange between Marnus Labuschagne and James Anderson after the day’s play.

“Marnus kept dragging his bat within the crease while looking at Jonny Bairstow who had the ball in his hands. Anderson seemed to suggest ‘we don’t do that’ as they crossed paths,” Bharat tweeted.

Australia Are In A Formidable Position

Earlier, Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. England got off to a good start, but Australian bowlers bounced back with the ball, picking up three wickets in quick succession. Moeen Ali and Harry Brook added a crucial 111-run partnership for the fifth wicket to steady the innings.

The Aussie bowlers picked up England’s last seven wickets for just 99 runs. Mitchell Starc was the chief architect behind the destruction, taking four wickets for 82 runs. The visitors ended with a score of 61/1, with Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne remaining unbeaten at the crease.
