Dawid Malan, on Tuesday (October 10), bounced back in style with an impressive century against Bangladesh after his failure with the bat against New Zealand last week. The left-handed batsman began his World Cup campaign with a 14-run knock during the 9-wicket loss against New Zealand.

England needed a good start in the crucial clash against Bangladesh and Dawid Malan rose to the occasion. He and Jonny Bairstow gave the reigning world champions a solid start by adding 115 runs for the first wicket. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan ended the stand by castling Jonny Bairstow. The right-handed batsman departed after scoring 52 runs off 59 balls.

Unlike Bairstow, Dawid Malan made the most of the start and went on to score his sixth ODI century. He reached his 4th ODI century of the year in 91 balls. He shared a big stand of 251 runs with Joe Root before Mahedi Hasan ended his knock with a brilliant delivery.

On the first ball of the 38th over, the England opener hit the Bangladesh spinner for a four. And on the very next delivery, Mahedi won the battle by castling Dawid Malan. The spinner outfoxed the opening batsman with a slower delivery. He went for a big shot but failed to make any contact with the ball.

Dawid Malan’s century power England to big total:

Talking about the game, England have finished their innings with a big total of 364 for 9. At 266 for 1 in 37 overs, the defending champions were looking destined to post a 400-plus total. However, Bangladesh did well to take a flurry of wickets in the final 10 overs and restrict England to 364.

After Malan’s dismissal, England kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The likes of Jos Buttler (20), Harry Brook (20), and Liam Livingstone (0) failed to get going with the bat. England have still managed to post a huge total and would be backing themselves to defend it.
