Former Australian cricketer Damien Martyn expressed sarcasm regarding the England team’s poor performance in the ICC World Cup 2023. Damien Martyn humorously stated that England’s aggressive batting style, “Bazball”, wouldn’t be effective under pressure.

The Jos Buttler-led team was eliminated from the ongoing World Cup after suffering their sixth defeat in the tournament. England registered a 33-run loss against Australia in their recent match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, November 4.

The England team currently occupies the last place in the marquee tournament’s standings. They are at risk of failing to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which requires finishing in the top 8 spots to secure a place in the multinational tournament in Pakistan.

Last World Cup Was A Fluke – Damien Martyn

After Australia’s victory, Damien Martyn took to his social media handle X (formerly known as Twitter) to make a sarcastic comment about the England team. Martyn suggested that their previous ODI World Cup victory was a fluke.

“Last World Cup was a fluke.. Under pressure Bazball no thank you,” Martyn tweeted on Sunday.

The Three Lions only reached the semifinals once in the previous eight editions of the 50-over World Cup. The England team secured their first title in the last tournament on home soil by defeating New Zealand in the final match through a boundary count.

Australia Cricket Has Been Doing That For Decades – Damien Martyn

Earlier, Martyn commented on the inclusion of the term ‘Bazball’ in the Collins dictionary, noting that aggressive cricket has been a long-standing tradition in Australian cricket culture. He highlighted that Australian cricket has embraced this style for decades.

“Australian cricket has been doing that for decades.” Damien Martyn tweeted.

On Wednesday, the term ‘Bazball’ was officially added to the Collins dictionary. ‘Bazball’ is categorized as a noun and is defined as “a style of Test cricket in which the batting side attempts to gain the initiative by playing in a highly aggressive manner.”
