As the England cricket team gears up to embark on their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 journey, Harry Brook, the comeback man, is brimming with confidence about the defending champions’ chances to retain the prestigious title in the USA and Caribbean.

The defending champions, England, are set to kick off their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Scotland in Barbados on June 4, and Brook sounded optimistic about the team's chances at the 20-team tournament.

The right-handed batter also insisted that he is feeling fitter and fresher than ever after a well-deserved break from the game, as he is ready to conquer the global stage. The 25-year-old batter recently rejoined the England cricket team after an emotional and extended break from the game.

Harry Brook ready to shine in ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Notably, Brook had to withdraw from England’s Test tour of India in January after his grandmother fell ill. Tragically, she passed away, leading the 2022 T20 World Cup winner to pull out of the IPL 2024 to be with his family back at home.

However, despite the personal setback, Brook used his time away from the game to focus on improving his physical fitness and stressed that he didn’t have any regrets about taking the break. As he is set to return to the international arena after a long break, Brook revealed that he shed some weight and honed his fitness levels.

The Englishman further noted that he rigorously trained during his break to be fit and mentally prepared for the challenges ahead. Looking ahead to the T20 World Cup 2024, Brook expressed confidence in England's squad depth and their ability to reclaim the title. He believes that the team has what it takes to bring home the trophy once again, and he is ready to make a mark in the tournament and help the team defend the title.

Harry Brook told Sky Sports: “Everybody's really excited. We fancy our chances. We've got a very good side, good squad depth around T20 cricket and we're confident we can bring it home again.”

Harry Brook opens up about his emotional journey

Reflecting on his long break, Brook highlighted the significance of spending quality time with his family during the tough time. He also said that he was focusing on his cricketing goals as well, utilizing the break to recharge mentally and physically.

Brook added: “I had that long break - four or five months off - so I just tried to nail it as soon as I got home. I just tried to train as hard as possible, trying to lose a bit of weight and trying to get a bit leaner. It wasn't in the nicest circumstances but that time with family was the most important thing for me.

Trying to spend as much time as I could with my grandma at that time was the right call and I don't regret it for a minute. But I did try and nail as much practice and fitness as much as I could and get myself in the right headspace. I had been travelling a lot, so to have that little break from cricket was good and I was raring to go again when I went back and played for Yorkshire.”
