The Jos Buttler-led team had a disappointing start to their World Cup campaign. England has managed to secure one victory out of the four games they’ve played in the ongoing tournament so far. The team faced a major upset, suffering a defeat against Afghanistan.

According to Sports Tak, Ben Stokes is currently injury-free, but he has been seen using an inhaler. Stokes’s use of an inhaler potentially echoes concerns raised by Joe Root, who had pointed out the challenges some players were experiencing in terms of their breathing.

Speaking after England’s match against South Africa in Mumbai, Joe Root described the challenging conditions he experienced. Root compared it to feeling like he couldn’t catch his breath and described it as he was ‘eating the air.’

“I’ve not played in anything like that before. I’ve obviously played in hotter conditions, and probably more humid conditions. But it just felt like you couldn’t get your breath. It was like you were eating the air. It was unique,” Root told reporters.

“I mean you couldn’t get away from it. You walk out onto the field and your shirt’s soaking wet, and you have a lot heavier breath than you would do, and you know you’ve done your fitness and stuff, it’s not like you’re short on that. So you are very aware of it.”

The Three Lions are currently in 8th place in the table, just above Bangladesh and the Netherlands. The defending champions have accumulated two points with an NRR of -1.048. They must win all the remaining matches to have a chance to advance to the semi-finals.

The Jos Buttler-led team will face Sri Lanka in their next match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, October 26.
