ENG vs SL: Watch - Chris Woakes Falls Prey To Sadeera Samarawickrama's Blinder

England all-rounder Chris Woakes couldn’t get going as he was back in the hut due to a controversial decision. Match 25 of the ICC World Cup 2023 is currently taking place between defending champions and Sri Lanka at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. 

Chris Woakes came to bat after England lost quick wickets. He tried to steady the innings with Ben Stokes but he wasn’t successful. The all-rounder tried to get his feet going but his stay at the crease was cut short by the excellent low catch by Sadeera Samarawickrama. 

Chris Woakes played a drive away off the fullish delivery from Kasun Rajitha. The ball went low to Sadeera Samarawickrama at the backward point and by the looks of it, it seemed that the ball touched the ground. Umpire Ahsan Raza went upstairs and after watching it a few times, the third umpire was convinced. 

The fingers seemed under the ball and Chris Woakes was livid with himself. His batting partner, Ben Stokes too couldn’t believe as the duo gave a shocking reaction. Here’s the video of his dismissal:

Chris Woakes couldn’t add to the scorers as he bagged a four-ball duck.  With his wicket, England came under more pressure and were tumbling at 123/7. No other batter could get going and few couldn’t cash on the start they got. Jonny Bairstow (30) and Dawid Malan (28) had good outings but couldn’t make an impact.

ENG vs SL: Ben Stokes follows Chris Woakes, and perishes for 43 

Ben Stokes was the lone warrior for England. He tried to bail England out of trouble and played some crisp shots. The all-rounder yet again thrived under pressure but unfortunately fell just 7 runs ahead of his half-century. 

Ben Stokes fell for 43 runs off Lahiru Kumara. The all-rounder tried to play the pull shot but couldn’t get hold of it. His wicket put England in utter disdain as they were left crumbling at 137/8. The defending champions look done in the tournament as a loss here would also end their chances of qualifying.
