The England team achieved their highest successful run-chase against the West Indies team during the third T20I match. Young batter Harry Brook guided the team to a sensational victory in the final over of the thrilling encounter in St. George’s on December 16.

The Jos Buttler-led team began the five-match T20I series with back-to-back losses in the Caribbean Islands. However, the visiting team bounced back to chase down an impossible 223-run target. England kept the series alive with the victory in the must-win match.

Phil Salt And Jos Buttler Provide A Flying Start

Openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler provided a flying start during the run chase in the power play. The batting duo added 73 runs in the first six overs. Skipper Jos Buttler (51 runs off 34 balls) was dismissed after a 115-run partnership for the first wicket in only 68 deliveries.

Will Jacks, who batted at No. 3, managed to score just 1 run off 6 deliveries before being dismissed by Gudakesh Motie. Liam Livingstone played a quick cameo, scoring 30 runs off 18 deliveries. Harry Brook came to the crease when the team needed 37 runs off 13 balls.

Harry Brook seized the opportunity in a crucial moment, with 21 runs needed off the final over. The 24-year-old showcased his prowess against Andre Russell, hitting a boundary and two sixes in the first three balls, leaving the equation at just five runs off three deliveries.

Brook took a double off the next ball, narrowing the requirement to three off two. The right-handed batter concluded the match in style with another six over the third-man region. He finished with 31 runs off just seven balls, including one boundary and four sixes.

Phil Salt was named Player of the Match for his magnificent maiden T20I century. The 27-year-old scored 109 runs off 56 deliveries, including four boundaries and nine sixes. The young batter remained unbeaten until the end, helping the team cross the finish line.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Jos Buttler credited Salt for his contribution and emphasized the importance of staying in the game longer. Buttler acknowledged Salt’s positive intent, expressing satisfaction in keeping the series alive.

“Great to keep the series alive. Hats off to Salt. Last game we talked about staying till the end. Credit to Salt. We tried a lot with the ball. Was a tough place for the spinners. The three-quarter balls were crucial. Salt has got such great intent. Staying in a game bit longer is important. Great effort,” said Buttler.

The Three Lions secured their third successful T20I run chase, having achieved the first two against South Africa. The English team will be seen in action next during the penultimate encounter against the West Indies in Trinidad on Tuesday, December 19.
