Standing tall at 6-foot-4, Jack has "impressed" the England Lions' coaching group, including Andrew Flintoff, Mark Wood, and Graeme Swann, according to London-based news outlet The Times. Jack plies his trade for Hampshire in domestic cricket but is yet to make his debut in the County Championship. He has played only two first-class games so far, with both appearances coming against India A.

Last month, Jack had also impressed during the warm-up game against Zimbabwe. The highly-rated pacer had picked up five wickets while representing a combined counties XI. Against India A, he troubled some notable names such as Rahul, Nitish Reddy, and Dhruv Jurel with his line and length. He eventually finished the series with 4 wickets.

England invite Eddie Jack:

England have called up Jack at a time when a number of their pacers are sidelined with injury. The likes of Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson are injured, while Jofra Archer's comeback has also been delayed due to a thumb injury. Recently, Josh Tongue suffered an injury too during the India A game and is doubtful for the first Test.

The only fast-bowling options in the England squad for the first Test are Brydon Carse, Sam Cook, Jamie Overton, and Chris Woakes. Tongue is also in the squad but is doubtful for the series opener. Jack could be added to the main squad if he impresses in the nets as well.

Meanwhile, the first Test of the series between India and England will be played at Headingley from June 20. The series will kickstart the campaigns of both teams in the new World Test Championship cycle.

England squad for 1st Test:

Stokes (C), Bashir, Bethell, Brook, Carse, Cook, Crawley, Duckett, Overton, Pope, Root, Smith, Tongue, Woakes
