The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have announced their 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India, with Sussex all-rounder James Coles receiving his maiden call-up to the England national cricket team.
England has mixed fresh faces with experienced players as they gear up to give a tough time to India in the upcoming ODI series, which will get underway on July 14 at Edgbaston.
The second ODI will be played at Sophia Gardens on July 16, while the third and final match will take place at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground on July 19. Amid this, Steve Waugh predicts Ben Stokes' retirement U-turn, hails Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
England announce ODI squad for India series, James Coles earns maiden call-up
England selectors have made four changes to the 15-member squad that toured Sri Lanka earlier this year. Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Saqib Mahmood, and James Coles have been added to the squad for the upcoming ODI series against India at home.
They replaced Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Jamie Overton, and Luke Wood in the ODI squad. The rest of the squad remains the same as England continues its preparations for the ICC World Cup 2026 in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Well, James Coles was handed the first-ever England call-up for the ODI series against India at home. However, Zak Crawley was dropped from the ODI side for the India series. The star fast bowler Josh Tongue will have a chance to make his ODI debut at home, with the selectors showing trust in him.
Additionally, Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood have returned to the ODI squad after missing the Sri Lanka series earlier this year. Harry Brook will continue as England’s full-time white-ball captain.

England are coming into the three-match ODI series after winning 2-1 against Sri Lanka earlier this year. They lost the first match but made a strong comeback by winning the next two games to seal the series.
On the other hand, India are also coming into the ODI series following their 3-0 ODI series win over Afghanistan at home. The three-match ODI series will see the return of Indian batting icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma into the action.
India and England are currently facing each other in the five-match T20I series, with the first match being washed out in Durham. The second T20I is scheduled for July 4 in Manchester.
