Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez has delivered a bold assessment of the ongoing opening test of the three-match Test series between Pakistan and England at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Hafeez has raised concerns over Pakistan’s chances against an unstoppable England side.
With the England cricket team firmly in the driver’s seat, thanks to a double century from Joe Root and a triple ton from Harry Brook, the former Pakistan cricket team director highlighted how their positive approach and superior game plan have placed them on the verge of commanding victory in Multan.
Mohammad Hafeez warns of Pakistan’s looming defeat as England dominates Multan Test
As the pitch at the Multan cricket stadium continues to offer little to the bowlers, Hafeez believes that the Englishmen's aggressive mindset has given them a significant edge, predicting the tourists could rack up record runs in the ongoing first Test, and even that also happened.
The Englishmen declared their first innings at a record 823/7 in 150 overs after Pakistan made 556 in their first innings in Multan.
But Pakistan looked staring down the barrel, with Hafeez cautioning that their best option may be to play for a draw. Otherwise, they face another home-ground defeat in the ongoing three-match Test series against the Englishmen.
It's all about mindset: Mohammad Hafeez
Taking to social media handle X, Mohammad Hafeez said: “Irrespective of the provided conditions at Multan Stadium. The England team is in the driving seat, having more chances to win due to positive intent and better game plans. On the same pitch, if batting equal, the England team will have 175+ runs to play for a win. Team Pakistan can only play for a draw or heading towards another home ground defeat. #Mindset #PAKvsENG”

The Englishmen declared their first innings with a colossal total of 823/7 before tea on the fourth day of the first Test against Pakistan, taking a commanding 267-run lead in Multan. Harry Brook delivered a masterclass, scoring an impressive 317, while Joe Root made 262/.
Harry Brook scripts history in the Multan Test
The duo recorded their highest Test scores on the flat Multan Cricket Stadium pitch. Brook reached the milestone of 300 by smashing a boundary off spinner Saim Ayub, becoming the sixth Englishman to achieve a triple century in Test cricket.
He reached the historic landmark off just 310 balls, hitting 28 fours and three sixes. Andy Sandham was the first Englishman to score a triple hundred, they smashed 325 runs against the West Indies in 1930. Other triple centurions from the English team are Len Hutton (364), Wally Hammond (336*), Graham Gooch (333*), and Bill Edrich (310*).
The strategic brilliance and relentless intensity of the Englishmen have been on full display throughout the match, and Hafeez suggests that without a significant shift in Pakistan's mindset and approach, the hosts will crumble under pressure with another massive defeat looming large.
