A member of England’s security team clashed with a Channel 7 camera operator at Brisbane Airport ahead of the third Test against Australia in the Ashes 2025-26. As the team arrived amid growing criticism and media pressure, the security officer was seen pushing the cameraman while trying to shield the players.
The Ben Stokes-led team lost the first two Test matches in Perth and Brisbane. They conceded a 0-2 lead to the home team and must win the next game to stay in contention for the series. On Saturday, the visiting team left Brisbane for Adelaide. Ahead of their flight, an uneasy moment unfolded at the Brisbane airport.
England Security Guard Involved in Ugly Airport Altercation With Channel 7 Cameraman
As the England players arrived from Noosa after a short break, the cameraman moved in to film the squad. However, the security officer stepped in and physically pushed him back.
The confrontation happened while the England team walked toward their Adelaide-bound flight for the third Test. Photos taken at the scene showed the guard extending his arm and making contact with the cameraman, even though the operator appeared to be keeping a respectful distance.
A Channel 7 camera operator was left surprised by the security guard’s reaction. Despite insisting he was simply standing in place, the guard repeatedly blocked his view.
The security guard said, “Out of my face, mate… don’t be clever.”
Cricket Australia Set Clear Boundaries for Media Conduct During the Ashes
Cricket Australia had already set clear boundaries for media conduct during the Ashes, reminding broadcasters that players from both teams must be given space while travelling.
The guidelines state that no interviews are allowed during transit and that any airport or hotel footage should be taken from a respectful distance.
"The Australian and England teams will not be available for interview while in transit between matches during the NRMA Ashes series. All airport, hotel and transit is vision only, to be captured from a respectful distance."
England Face Mounting Media Pressure After Back-to-Back Ashes Defeats
England have been under a lot of media pressure after losing the first two Ashes Tests, and that pressure has grown as they travel to Adelaide needing a win to stay in the series.
England had been followed everywhere by reporters and fans even before this incident. The team had asked their security staff to stay calm and avoid overreacting because most people they met only wanted selfies or quick photos.
In Australia, the players have handled the extra attention with good humour. They allowed filming during their golf sessions, laughed about drones flying over them, and even took the “no helmet on e-scooters” story lightly. They also agreed to photos and jokes with local radio hosts on the beach in Noosa.
However, the mood around the team has changed after two big losses. The airport clash was the first clear sign of tension, showing how the pressure of poor results is starting to affect the normally relaxed atmosphere around the England squad.
