An ODI series between two completely different teams at the moment. England and Sri Lanka are sitting polar opposites in terms of where the team are currently placed at the moment. While England are boiling with confidence after the T20I series win, Sri Lanka are staring at back-to-back series defeats. The first of the three ODIs start on Tuesday at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street, on Tuesday, June 29.

The T20I series has highlighted the inexperience of the Sri Lankan national team at the moment. Players like Kusal Perera, Isuru Udana, and a handful of others are the most experienced players in the side.

England and Sri Lanka have played 75 games to date with both teams winning 35 games each. Heading into the series, England have a few injury concerns. They are missing Jos Buttler with a calf injury while Jason Roy has survived a hamstring injury. Dawid Malan has been added in Buttler’s replacement while Joe Root is back in the ODI set up after a gap of more than 12 months.

England will be playing Pakistan in a three-match ODI and T20I series as they build up for the T20 World Cup. They lost their previous ODI series against India in India 2-1. They lost the T20I series too 3-2.
