India beat England by 16 runs in the third and final One-Day International (ODI) at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Saturday, September 24. Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma scored half-centuries in the first innings, and the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team managed to win despite scoring only 169 runs.
All-rounder Deepti Sharma ran out Charlie Dean, who was backing up too far and was out of the crease at the non-striker’s end. Dean nearly took the match away from the home side before being dismissed for 47 runs.
Terrible Way To Finish The Game – Stuart Broad
Meanwhile, Deepti Sharma’s decision to run out Dean led to a debate among cricket fans. English seamer Stuart Broad felt it was a terrible way to finish the match and put out a tweet writing: “A run out? Terrible way to finish the game”

Ganesh responded by recalling that Broad refused to walk off despite nicking the ball to the slip fielder. He felt that Chris Broad must educate his son on the rules.
Dodda Ganesh wrote on twitter: “Nicking the ball to first slip and standing your ground as if nothing happened, is actually terrible. A Run-out isn’t. I guess, match Referee Chris Broad needs to educate his son on the laws of cricket.”

India Gives Fitting Farewell To Jhulan Goswami
Indian women’s cricket team gave veteran fast bowler Jhulan Goswami a perfect send-off with a 16-run win over England at Lord’s. The 39-year-old retired from international cricket as the top wicket-taker with 255 ODI wickets and the first woman bowler to play more than 200 ODI matches.
In the post-match presentation ceremony, India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur stated that the dismissal was within the laws and that any controversy over it was unnecessary.
“It’s part of the game I don’t think we have done something new. It shows your awareness, what batters are doing. I will back my players, she hasn’t done something outside the rules.”
India last whitewashed England in a women’s bilateral ODI series in 2001-02, and Jhulan Goswami made her international debut in the series. Two decades later, the right-arm pacer ended his international career with another clean sweep in the ODI series against England, and for the first time on English soil.
