As his tenure as the head coach concluded, legendary batter Rahul Dravid shared experiences of his ups and downs with the India national cricket team. Rahul Dravid highlighted that he wanted to create a professional, safe, and secure environment that encourages success without fear of failure.

Rahul Dravid took over as head coach from Ravi Shastri after the T20 World Cup 2021. The Indian team achieved success in the bilateral series but failed to secure an ICC title in two years. The team lost to Australia in the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) granted Dravid an extension until the T20 World Cup 2024. The 51-year-old guided the team to an ICC trophy in his last assignment as head coach. It's worth mentioning that it was his first ICC trophy as he didn't end his playing career with a World Cup trophy.

Challenging Enough To Push People - Rahul Dravid

In a video posted by BCCI, Rahul Dravid emphasized that coaching goes beyond cricket skills to nurturing relationships and fostering an environment that promotes success. Dravid highlighted his aim to create a professional, secure, and challenging environment where players can perform without fear of failure.

"I'd like to believe that coaching is not just about coaching cricket. It's about coaching and building connections with people, creating right environment that allows success. I feel that I'm a part of a team whose responsibility is to create the right professional, safe, secure environment that doesn't really have a fear of failure as such but is challenging enough to push people. That has always been my endavour to try and create that," Dravid said.

Really Enjoyed Working With Rohit Sharma - Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid expressed his admiration for Rohit Sharma as both a player and a leader in Indian cricket. Dravid acknowledged his significant contributions over the past decade. He stated that he has really enjoyed working with Rohit, adding that he knew him as a young boy.

"I've really enjoyed working with Rohit, he's someone I knew as a young boy, just to see him grow as a person, grow as a leader in Indian cricket, what someone like him has been able to contribute to the team over the last 10-12 years, both as a player and now as a leader, has been a real tribute to him and the effort he has put in, the time he has put in. I've really enjoyed getting to know him as a person as well, really enjoyed seeing his commitment, his care to the team, just to try to get the environment right, to try and make it an environment where everyone feels safe, secure, enjoy themselves, while it's also a very competitive and a professional environment. It's something that I'll miss, this connection with Rohit," Dravid added.

"Someone like Virat (Kohli). Just a couple of series with him as a captain and just a couple of test matches, but I was getting to know him as well, just to see how he goes about his business and the professionalism that he continues to display, his desire to improve and get better. It's been fascinating for me to watch," said Dravid.

Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is following India's T20 World Cup victory. Sharma started his career with India's first T20 triumph in 2007. Under Rohit's captaincy, India secured their second T20 World Cup title. India defeated South Africa by seven runs in a closely contested final in Barbados on June 29.

The 37-year-old holds the record for the highest runs in T20Is with 4,231 runs in 159 matches at an average of 31.34 and a strike rate of 140.89. Rohit also smashed five centuries, the most by any player in T20I history, along with 32 half-centuries. He is the only Indian cricketer to win two T20 World Cups.
