England limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan after the win against Sri Lanka, has got past the record of MS Dhoni and Asghar Afghan to become the most successful T20I captain of all time. India’s MS Dhoni and Afghanistan’s Asghar Afghan held the record previously with 42 wins in T20 internationals overall. Morgan’s victory against Sri Lanka yesterday as the skipper of England was the 43rd win.
Morgan has, in fact, taken fewer games than the likes of MS Dhoni, while Asghar Afghan holds the record now for the fastest to 42 wins in just 52 games. The 35-year-old Eoin Morgan already holds the record for the most runs by an English skipper in limited-overs cricket with 6957 ODI runs (223 matches) and 2367 T20I runs from 68 matches.
Eoin Morgan’s Succesful Stint As Captain
After Alastair Cook was removed from captaincy post the 2015 World Cup England performance, the responsibility was given to Eoin Morgan, and he has so far taken it with both hands. Since then, he has structured a totally different mindset in the English team, and the style has been very aggressive as well.
He captained the English side to their first 50 over World cup win in 2019 and took the Kolkata Knight Riders to almost a victory in the 2021 IPL season. He is rated among the best captains in the world, and he has used his bowling resources at their best. It will be interesting to see if he can take England to another successful triumph in the ongoing T20 World cup 2021.
England Almost Seal Their Place In Semi-Finals
Group 1 has been very tight, with all the teams having the potential to progress to the semi-final of the T20 World cup 2021, and the one team that has stood out separately has been England. With four wins in four games, they have dominated all the games and do like a strong contender for the title.
Eoin Morgan should be given a lot of credit for the way he has marshalled the troops despite the absence of Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes and Sam Curran.
