Estonia batsman Sahil Chauhan, on Monday (June 17), created history by smashing the fastest century in the history of T20Is. The right-handed batsman achieved the incredible feat against Cyprus.
He completed his century in just 27 balls. It is now also the fastest century in all T20s. On Monday, Estonia and Cyprus played the first two games of the six-match series. Estonia went on to win both the games but Sahil Chauhan had a mixed outing.
In the first game, he could not even open his account and was dismissed for a golden duck although his team went on to chase down 196 in the final over. Captain Arslan Amjad starred with the bat for Estonia in the first game, scoring 63 to lay the foundation for the successful chase.
Just hours later, Sahil Chauhan made amends for his failure in the first game by scoring a blazing century in the second. Chasing 192, Estonia were reeling at 40 for 3 before Sahil Chauhan single-handedly powered them to a remarkable victory. The 32-year-old played an unbeaten knock of 144 runs off just 41 balls. He also broke the record for most sixes hit in a T20I innings by smashing as many as 18 sixes.
Sahil Chauhan did not take long to get going. He made his intentions clear by taking Mangala Gunasekara to the cleaners in the sixth over. He hit Gunasekara for four sixes and a four to complete his fifty off just 14 balls and did not look back after that. He eventually reached his century in the ninth over off just 27 balls. Thanks to his whirlwind knock, Estonia chased down the total in just 13 overs.
