Cricketer-turned-commentator Parthiv Patel feels that Rohit Sharma should lead the Indian Team in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and then move forward. Parthiv Patel also feels that with Hardik Pandya’s injury, it is not clear whether he will be fit in time for the World Cup.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is set to take place next year in June in the West Indies and the US. There is confusion as to who will lead the side in the tournament. Rohit Sharma is the official T20I captain of India. However, in 2023, Hardik Pandya led the side in all T20I matches.

Rohit Sharma Should Lead Team In T20 World Cup And Then Move Forward: Parthiv Patel

During a show on Cricbuzz, host Gaurav Kapur and former players Zaheer Khan and Parthiv Patel discussed India’s captain in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Zaheer Khan said Rohit Sharma should lead the team in the World Cup.

Parthiv Patel agreed with his opinions and also reasoned why Sharma should lead the team in the tournament. Patel noted that with Hardik Pandya’s injury, it is not clear if he will be fit in time or play enough matches ahead of the T20 World Cup.

“Yeah exactly and especially with the situation of Hardik Pandya. Everyone was sure that India’s T20I captain after the 50-over World Cup will be Hardik Pandya. But now that with his injury coming in, you don’t know about his rehab, you don’t know whether or not he will be fit in time or not. How many games he will play”, Patel said.

The former wicketkeeper batter also added that this year, other captains led the side because there were too many series happening simultaneously. Hence, Parthiv Patel thinks that  Sharma should lead the team in the T20 World Cup and then move forward.

“But the first six months we can see the list of so many captains here because there was a lot of series that was happening. Test series, one-day series, T20I series, all of them were happening simultaneously. That was the reason he had other captains and all of that. So it makes sense that Rohit should lead the side for at least this World Cup and then move forward”, he added.

Meanwhile, selectors have left the decision on Rohit Sharma to decide his future of captaincy in the shortest format. Sharma is yet to update his decision regarding the same. In the absence of Sharma and Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav is leading the team in the ongoing T20I series against Australia,
