A huge storm has hit Indian cricket after India A crashed out of the Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025 in a shocking defeat to Bangladesh A in the semifinal. The controversy exploded because of a baffling decision that left fans and experts stunned during the semifinal clash.
India A decided against playing Vaibhav Suryavanshi—top run-scorer and leading six-hitter of the Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025—during the Super Over, and it cost them the final spot.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi snubbed, and India A pay the price in the Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025
After the main match ended in a tie, India A had the chance to put pressure on Bangladesh with their most explosive batter. But they kept Vaibhav Suryavanshi on the bench and instead sent out captain Jitesh Sharma and Ashutosh Sharma to bat in the Super Over, leading to an unbelievable collapse.
In a never-before-seen moment in professional cricket, the Indian team was bowled out for zero in just two balls as Jitesh fell while trying a risky lap shot, whereas Ashutosh was caught at cover after mistiming a big swing in the very next ball against Bangladesh A.
With only one run needed, Bangladesh crossed the target off a wide from Suyash Sharma even after losing a wicket on the first ball, sealing India’s exit and leaving the Indian cricket fraternity shocked as their Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025 campaign ended in the most dramatic way possible.
KKR Ex-Manager demands probe after India A’s shocking decision in Super Over
The decision to bench Vaibhav during the Super Over has now turned into a full-blown controversy. Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) manager Makarand Waingankar publicly demanded a proper investigation into India A coach Sunil Joshi, calling the move a major blunder that cost India a place in the final.
The former KCA and BCA official also questioned how the team could sideline Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who had dominated the entire tournament and proven himself as India’s biggest hitter in pressure moments.
Makarand Waingankar posted on X: “How can India Why did the coach not send a cricket atom bomb, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, to open in the Super Over against Bangladesh yesterday? Wasn't even sent at 3 after the opener was dismissed first ball. Absolutely ridiculous. This needs to be investigated. It's a serious lapse.”

Maninder Singh slams India A think-tank after shocking Super Over blunder
Even former Indian spinner Maninder Singh expressed his anger over India A’s strange tactical move in their Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025 exit. Maninder, who was on commentary during the match, couldn’t understand what the team management was thinking.
He questioned India’s decision not to play Vaibhav in the Super Over as the camera focused on the coach, Sunil Joshi, making notes in the dressing room when the disaster unfolded against Bangladesh A.
Maninder Singh said in the commentary box, “Still trying to think what the India A think tank was doing. Why didn’t they send Vaibhav Suryavanshi to bat in the Super Over? Sunil Joshi, the India A head coach—what is he writing now? The ship has already sailed.”
