India captain Rohit Sharma is going through one of the toughest phases of his career as a batter. Rohit had a disappointing home Test season and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He was expected to return to form in ODIs but was dismissed for another low score in the first ODI against England.

Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has some weird advice for Rohit ahead of the second ODI against England to be played on February 9. Bangar feels that Rohit should stop practicing too much in the nets in order to regain his form.

According to Bangar, Rohit must go back to the basics and look at his strengths rather than training too hard in the nets. India desperately needs its captain to regain form ahead of the highly important Champions Trophy.

Sanjay Bangar advises Rohit Sharma to stop practicing in nets

While speaking during a conversation on Star Sports show 'Match Point', Sanjay Bangar was asked about Rohit Sharma's poor form. Bangar felt that Rohit should stop practicing too much and instead watch videos in which he was scoring big runs.

"A phase has come in his career where he hasn't scored runs. Sometimes practicing too much isn't beneficial. He can probably spend a little time alone and watch the phase where he enjoyed a lot of success. Watch some videos and figure out what his habits and routines were," Bangar said.

The former India allrounder believes that Rohit needs to remind himself of his strengths and must not get desperate in an attempt to perform well. He asked Rohit to stay calm and believe in his processes.

"Sometimes all those things prove hugely beneficial if you have to regain your rhythm. You have to remind yourself what works for you. He shouldn't be too desperate in his thinking," he added.

Rohit Sharma's poor batting form

After India's title win in the T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit Sharma has endured a tough time with the bat and also as a captain. He scored 133 runs in five Tests against Bangladesh and New Zealand at an average of 13.30 with just a solitary half-century.

His form didn't improve in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy where he struggled to put bat on ball consistently. Rohit scored just 31 runs in three Tests at an average of 6.20 and even had to drop himself from the final Test played in Sydney.

His form slump continued in the ongoing ODI series as well. The Indian skipper was dismissed for just 2 off 7 balls in the first ODI against England. Rohit Sharma will be aiming to have runs under his belt before the upcoming Champions Trophy.

India looking to wrap up the series

India won the first ODI against England by 4 wickets in Nagpur with more than 11 overs to spare. The next match of the three-match series will be played in Cuttack on February 9 and the Men in Blue will be aiming to wrap up the series.

After the ODI series, the team will travel to Dubai for their Champions Trophy campaign. While all the teams will play their matches in Pakistan, all of India's matches will be played in Dubai.
