Ex-RCB, PBKS, DC star mocks IPL, calls PSL better: 'More Bollywood movie than actual cricket'
PC: X

Former IPL multi-franchise star Rilee Rossouw has moved to the PSL over the last few seasons. He has made a shocking claim, wherein he has claimed the IPL to be more of a movie than a cricket match.

Ever since the clash of the two boards, PCB and the BCCI, the two franchise league tournaments have shared the same window, and players have had to pick between one of the two leagues. With most players siding with IPL, PSL has a reputation for picking only the players rejected in the IPL auctions.

Hence, many players who were formerly part of the IPL franchises and now feature in the PSL teams have had controversial opinions. Recently, out-of-favor South African cricketer Rilee Rossouw dropped a controversial opinion belittling the IPL in comparison to the PSL.

"It's a lot more of a movie than actual cricket," a former IPL cricketer's shocking claim on the IPL

Rilee Rossouw had formerly featured in the IPL and had represented several franchises over four seasons he played in the world's greatest T20 league. However, he has played more seasons in the Pakistan Super League, representing his current side, Quetta Gladiators, and former side, Multan Sultans.

Playing for Gladiators in this edition of the PSL, the eleventh edition of the competition, he was asked his opinion on the IPL and the PSL, to which the former RCB cricketer made a shocking statement.

"IPL is a very long tournament, and PSL is a much more compact tournament where the competition is a lot more fierce. IPL obviously has the whole Bollywood behind it, so it's a lot more of a movie than actual cricket," claimed Rossouw.

Rilee Roussow's IPL stats

South African batter Rilee Rossouw is widely known as one of the finest T20 batters in the world, as he has played for several franchises in global T20 leagues. In the IPL, he has had three brief stints with three franchises.

He first played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru between 2014 and 2015. However, he played just 5 matches in those two seasons and managed to score just 53 runs in the IPL. He returned to feature for the Delhi Capitals in 2023 before moving to the Punjab Kings in 2024.

He had two decent seasons, as he amassed 209 and 211 runs in 9 and 8 matches respectively for the above-mentioned teams. He also scored two fifties during these matches, as he scored runs striking at over 150.

Rilee Roussow's promising numbers in the PSL

Rilee Roussow is a great player in the PSL, as he has been a constant part of the Pakistan Super League. He has received wide-scale revenue from the nation and seemingly has shown some great devotion to the league and the board as well.

Roussow has played in 99 matches and is just one game away from becoming a 100-match veteran in the history of the PSL. He has amassed 2366 runs and had the best season back in 2022/23, when he represented the Multan Sultans and scored 453 runs, including his second PSL hundred.

With three centuries and 11 half-centuries, Roussow has batted with a strike rate between 150 and 170. He has shown glimpses of good form this season against the Rawalpindiz, as he scored his first half-century of the season.
