Former English spinner Monty Panesar has opined on Suryakumar Yadav’s role in the five-match Test series between England and India which is all set to kick off from August 04. Notably, Suryakumar Yadav has been called to England as an injury replacement after a lot of tussles between the BCCI and the Indian team management.
The Indian Cricket Team has been dealing with multiple injury blows off late and this has caused a lot of damage to the Indian batting lineup even before the series has begun. Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Washington Sundar have all been ruled out of the series while Mayank Agarwal has been ruled out of the first Test.
Suryakumar Yadav And Team India Will Continue With Their Aggressive Brand In Test Format: Monty Panesar
Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw were in Sri Lanka with the Indian contingent that traveled for the limited-overs series but a massive COVID explosion in the Indian camp meant delayed departure for Shaw and Yadav to England. Finally, the duo reached England on August 03 and will now be eligible for selection only from the third Test of the series.
Speaking to Cricketaddictor in an exclusive chat, Monty Panesar said, “It’s about the adjustment for Suryakumar Yadav. A lot of Indian players love hitting the ball through the line and like to get bat on the ball. They find it really difficult to leave the bowl and let the bowlers bowl to them which is the key for batting in England.”
“The Indian players are very attacking and we saw that in the World Test Championship. But there’s always that risk in England when you look to score quickly, you might lose a lot of wickets in the process. I assume that will be the decision that Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli will look to play. I don’t think they will play in the traditional manner, they will just play in a very attacking manner,” Monty further added.
Suryakumar Yadav Has Been On Cloud Nine In The Last Couple Of Years
Indian middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been in the form of his life in the last 3 years for his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) and his domestic side, Mumbai. A lot of credit for Mumbai Indians’ success in the last couple of years owes to Suryakumar. His fortune turned when he was bought by Mumbai Indians in a swap deal from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of IPL 2018.
Improved performances in the domestic circuit and in the Indian Premier League earned Suryakumar a maiden India call-up this year in the series against England as he made his T20I debut in the series and later made his ODI debut for the India National Cricket Team in the ODI series against Sri Lanka winning the Man of the Series award in his maiden ODI series.
