ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has witnessed the biggest upset as the World Champions Australia lost to Afghanistan in a shocking encounter on Saturday, June 22. Australia lost to Afghanistan by 21 runs at Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent in the 48th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. 

Australia, who won the ODI World Cup last year, are among the red-hot favorites to win the T20 World Cup 2024. Notably, Afghanistan almost crushed Australia in the ODI World Cup last year, however, an impeccable unbeaten double century by Glenn Maxwell helped the Aussies to clinch the victory in that game. 

Although Afghanistan failed to win the game that time, they produced an astonishing performance this time. As a result, Australia now has a slim chance of making it to the semis of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Interestingly, Team India now has the power to ouster Australia from the way to the semi-finals.

Now, Australia has two crucial games to look out for. They have their next game against India on June 24, Monday. The match takes place at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia. The Mitchell March & Co. has to win their encounter at any cost. 

However, this won't be enough for the Aussies to grab a place in the semi-finals. Afghanistan should also lose their next clash in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Rashid Khan-led side will clash with Bangladesh on Monday, June 24. The thrilling clash will be played at Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown. 

Hence, we can conclude that India and Australia have the might to outplay Australia if they win their next games. It will be a perfect opportunity for Team India to avenge their ODI World Cup defeat. 

India unbeatable in T20 World Cup 2024

India has been the most dominating team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma & Co. has been unbeaten in the tournament. They qualified for the Super 8 round after topping Group A.

They also crushed Afghanistan by 47 runs in the Super 8 Round and Bangladesh by 50 runs in their previous clash. By defeating Australia, the Men-In-Blue will also finalize their spot in the semi-final. 

Meanwhile, it was Australia's first defeat in T20 World Cup 2024. The T20 WC 2021 Champions topped the Group B points table earlier to qualify for Super 8. They won their opening game against Bangladesh but lost to the Afghan Army. 

Afghan earlier sent New Zealand out of the tournament

Afghanistan has shown their dominance since the start of the tournament. Rashid Khan was nominated as the skipper ahead of the tournament. They were part of Group C. 

They crushed teams like Uganda, New Zealand, and PNG to grab a spot in the Super 8. Afghanistan lost to India in their first game of Super 8 but made a classic comeback to astonish Australia.

Now, Afghanistan can also finalize their spot in the semi-final if they beat Bangladesh by a big margin in their next match.
