In a recent development, Delhi Capitals (DC) shared a major update on the availability of overseas players for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season, which is set to resume on May 17. The franchise confirmed that vice-captain Faf du Plessis and South African batter Tristan Stubbs have rejoined the squad.
Delhi Capitals are in fifth place on the IPL 2025 points table, having secured six wins from 11 matches. Their last fixture against Punjab Kings (PBKS) was abandoned due to India-Pakistan tensions. The team will play their next match against Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday.
Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs Rejoin Delhi Capitals
In a statement released on Saturday, Delhi Capitals have confirmed that Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs have rejoined the team ahead of the tournament's resumption.
"JSW and GMR co-owned franchise Delhi Capitals on Saturday confirmed that Vice-captain Faf du Plessis and teammate Tristan Stubbs have rejoined the team ahead of the resumption of IPL 2025," the franchise said in a statement.
Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs had returned home after the IPL was suspended. Du Plessis will be available for the remainder of the tournament. However, Stubbs will only be available until May 26, as he has been included in South Africa’s squad for the upcoming World Test Championship final.
Mitchell Starc and Donovan Ferreira Unavailable for Remainder of IPL 2025
Delhi Capitals have also stated that Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc and South African all-rounder Donovan Ferreira will be unavailable. The franchise expressed its understanding and support for both players’ decisions, wishing them continued success in their respective commitments.
"The franchise has also confirmed that Australian pacer Mitchell Starc and South African all-rounder Donovan Ferreira are currently unavailable. Delhi Capitals fully respects their decision, and extends its support and best wishes for their continued success" the release further added.
Starc has been selected for Australia’s squad for the World Test Championship final. Delhi have signed Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk, who will not be returning to India due to personal reasons.
Mustafizur Rahman Represented Delhi Capitals in the 2022 and 2023 Seasons
Mustafizur represented Delhi Capitals in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He took eight wickets in eight matches in 2022 with an economy rate of 7.62, while he featured in just two games and took one wicket in 2023. Overall, Mustafizur has played 57 matches and taken 61 wickets at an economy rate of 8.14.
Before the IPL suspension, Delhi Capitals played their last match against Punjab Kings at Dharamsala on May 8, but the game was abandoned after just 10.1 overs.
DC began the season strongly with four consecutive wins but then struggled. They lost four of the next six games, putting their playoff hopes at risk. Their 11th match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) was also washed out, resulting in both teams sharing the points.
