New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham shared his feelings on MS Dhoni’s run out during the 2019 World Cup semi-final in which his team defeated India by 18 runs to reach their second consecutive World Cup final, in England.

MS Dhoni was the glue that held that India innings together in the semi-final after the New Zealand bowlers Matt Henry and Trent Boult ran through the top order like a hot knife through butter. India was reduced to 6 wickets for 90 odd runs when MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja came together.

The duo rebuilt the Indian innings, as they were facing an uphill task while chasing 240 runs to win and qualify for their first World Cup final after 2011. Jadeja and Dhoni added 116 runs for the 7th wicket with Jadeja slamming 77 in 59 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes, and was looking to take the game away from the Kiwis.

But Trent Boult had him caught by Kane Williamson and MS Dhoni struggled to keep up with the required run rate. In the end, while trying to retain strike in the 49th over, MS Dhoni was caught short on the second run by a direct hit from Martin Guptill. Dhoni walked back to the pavilion for 50 off 72 balls with 1 four and 1 six and with him ended India’s chances of qualifying for the final.

This proved to be MS Dhoni’s final innings for India in international cricket, as he announced his retirement in August 2020.
