A day ahead of the match against India, and their first match of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan Women’s cricket team suffered a major injury threat in the form of their captain, Fatima Sana.

Ahead of the India vs Pakistan match, during a net session, Fatima Sana suffered a blow, which came with alarming signs, as the team was only a night away from the campaign opener.

According to the latest updates, during a batting session in the nets, the Pakistan skipper took a blow that forced him to walk off the pitch. She sat out the remainder of the season.

After the incident, the following reports suggest that the knock was not threatening. Sana is all fine to face their arch rivals India for tomorrow’s game at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

“Fatima Sana is fine and will be available for tomorrow’s game,” RevSportz Global reported.

Why is Fatima Sana important for the Pakistan Women's team?

Sana, who is now 24, but made his international debut for the Pakistan International Women’s Cricket team at the age of only 17, is not only the captain of the team, but also considered the center piece of the T20I team because of her all-round abilities.

With Fatima Sana in the line-up, the Pakistan playing eleven looks more balanced on paper. Against India, tomorrow, the Women in Green will hope to see their captain carrying a major role both with bat and ball.

The Karachi-born has so far played 59 Women’s T20 Internationals for Pakistan to score 715 runs with an average of 34.04 and claimed 48 wickets in as many matches for an economy rate of 7.53.

In the lead-up to their first match in the Women’s T20 World Cup, the star all-rounder’s form was not satisfying enough to justify his talent. She got his last half-century on May 15, 2026, against Zimbabwe in Karachi.

Her overall stats against India, in this particular format, are also a bit worrying. From 2022-24, she faced India in 4 matches and scored 43 runs, including a highest of unbeaten 22 in three innings. With the ball, the spinner has claimed a couple of wickets in only four games.

Sana broke the record for the fastest 50 in Women's T20I

A month ago, the Pakistan international broke the world record for fastest 50 in women’s T20I. Against Zimbabwe, she scored a half-century in only 15 balls, which was recorded as the fastest fifty in the format of women’s cricket.

At the National Stadium in Karachi, she scored 62 runs off 19 balls as Pakistan beat the visitors by 133 runs and sealed the series 3-0. On the way to the record-making half-century, Sana broke the record of an 18-ball half-century jointly held by Sophie Devine of New Zealand, Phoebe Litchfield of Australia, and India’s Richa Ghosh.

Pakistan cricket fans will hope to see the same flair from the skipper again against India in the ICC’s showcase tournament.
