Former India batsman S. Badrinath has taken a sly dig at Team India for their treatment of wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson.

The right-handed batsman, on Thursday (July 27), once again warmed the bench as India played the first ODI against West Indies in Barbados. With both Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul not a part of the team due to injury, Sanju Samson was expected to play the first ODI.

Ishan Kishan was another wicketkeeping option in the team but Sanju Samson was expected to play because of being a middle-order batsman. However, the Indian team management decided otherwise. Sanju Samson was once again snubbed by the team as Kishan got the chance to play.

As soon as India’s playing XI for the first ODI was announced, fans took to social media to express their displeasure over the same. They not only expressed their disappointment over Sanju Samson not getting enough chances to prove himself in international cricket but also slammed the team management for constantly ignoring the Kerala star.

And S. Badrinath also expressed his displeasure over the same although in a humorous manner. The former batsman took to X to post a picture of Suryakumar Yadav who played the first ODI by wearing Sanju Samson’s jersey and wrote: “Looks like the only way Sanju can find a place in the XI”.

India win first ODI:

Talking about the first ODI, India went on to thrash West Indies by five wickets to take the lead in the three-match series. The visitors bowled out the hosts for just 114 runs in 23 overs with Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja picking up 4 and 3 wickets respectively.

In reply, India chased down the total in less than 23 overs. Ishan Kishan starred with the bat for India, scoring 52 off 46 balls. Kishan is likely to retain his spot in the team for the second ODI too which could see Sanju Samson warm the bench once again.
