The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has taken action after corruption allegations during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, suspending four players with immediate effect. Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi, and Abhishek Thakuri are accused of attempting to influence members of the Assam squad.

An FIR has been registered with the Crime Branch in Guwahati against the four Assam players, accusing them of trying to influence teammates during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 in Lucknow. Following the allegations, the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) launched an inquiry to investigate.

“The above four players, who have represented Assam at various stages, are accused of influencing and attempting to instigate some of the current Assam team players, who took part in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 held in Lucknow from November 26 to December 8,” said Sanatan Das.

The situation has raised questions about the state of domestic cricket administration in India. Notably, the matter is no longer just an internal disciplinary issue. It exposes deeper gaps in oversight, player safeguarding, and governance across state cricket systems.

Misconduct Affects the Integrity of the Sport - ACA Secretary on Immediate Suspensions

ACA secretary Sanatan Das said that the misconduct threatens the integrity of the game. The suspensions were imposed immediately to prevent the situation from worsening.

"After the allegations came to light, the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ASCU) of the BCCI conducted an enquiry. The ACA has also initiated criminal proceedings," Sanatan Das said.

"Prima facie, there appears to be their involvement in serious misconduct, affecting the integrity of the sport. The suspension of the players was done to curtail any scope of further deterioration of the situation," he added.

Four Assam Players Banned From All Cricket as ACA Issues Strict Warning

The ACA has banned the four accused players during the investigation. They are not allowed to play in any state-level tournaments or matches run by the Assam Cricket Association, district units, or affiliated clubs.

They also cannot take part in any cricket-related work, such as coaching, umpiring, or serving as match officials. The suspension will remain in place until the investigation is finished and a final decision is made.

Notably, the association has also instructed every district body to strictly follow the order. District associations must inform all clubs and academies under them so that the ban is enforced. The ACA wants to make sure there is no chance of the players being involved in cricket in any form.

Assam failed to qualify for the Super League stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy after playing their league games in Lucknow.
